Hand-woven and Pre-woven Cane Seats
The "honeycomb" pattern seat can be done in 2 different ways. If the chair has a series of holes drilled around the inner edge, single strands of cane are hand-woven in a seven-step process which is rather complex and time-consuming to achieve.
If the chair has a groove routed around the inside edge, a pre-woven sheet of cane is "pressed" down into the groove, and held in place with a spline (and lots of glue!) While it generally takes less time than hand weaving, it can still be very time-consuming, especially if someone used some particularly hard, and difficult to remove, type of glue! It can take hours to get the groove cleaned out adequately!
If well cared for these seats can last for many years! (See "Caring For Your Seats" on the menu for more tips on this!)
